Every
student's
day
is personalized

At Centerpoint School, we have about 45 staff working with our 50 students. This gives us tremendous ability to create personalized school programs that will best meet each students needs. Though all students operate on a weekly block schedule, their classes are handcrafted just for them!

Some students spend most of their school days at internships. Some students spend most of their classes with just them and a teacher. Some students spend part of their day with us and part of their day at a tech center or a local college.  Some students have a lot of 1:1 classes but have group class in art and physical education because they feel better about themselves in those classes.
Here are some things that are true for almost every student:
  • The school day starts between 9:30 and 9:45am. The school day ends by 3:30pm except on Wednesdya, when it ends at 1:30pm.
  • Your sending school district will provide you with a ride to and from school. Students take school busses, cabs, have family members drive them, ride the city bus, and some have drivers who are contracted by the sending school to bring them.
  • There are four class periods a day that we call “blocks.” Each block is one hour and 15 minutes long.
  • You will have a school binder with you during the day that has your schedule and other important information for your day.
  • Lunch is offered from 11:15–11:45am each day.

Every day students build and create

Our students have lots of ideas and plenty of interests! At Centerpoint School, we create time and space for students to explore their interests and passions in each subject heading. By allowing students to tap into their natural curiosity, we help them experience success in school in a whole new way.

Every day students are out in their communities

Meaningful learning occurs in meaningful places. Therefore, many classes at Centerpoint occur in the community. These opportunities range from the traditional field trip to regular community-immersed classes that may mean never setting foot in the actual school buildings.

Some common community based opportunities that you will encounter at Centerpoint School:
  • A Physical Education class at the Saint Michael’s College Gymnasium or the Sports and Fitness Edge.
  • Visiting a local library to find a book for class.
  • Pricing out art project materials at a craft store.
  • Going for a walk at a local park or trail.
  • Having an internship at an Auto Body Shop, Computer Repair Store, or Farm.
At Centerpoint, school happens anywhere and everywhere. Teachers and Social Workers generally use their own cars to transport students during the day. In many ways, at Centerpoint, a teacher’s car is also a classroom.

Every day students work on relationships

Picture

Centerpoint School is a small school- and we spend a lot of time with each other. We get to know each other very well. Everyone at Centerpoint School is working on how to be in healthy relationships- with their teachers and with other students and with the people are most important in their life. This means working on how we communicate and how we work through problems when they come up. We offer support and practice on how to connect with each other in healthy, enjoyable ways. We offer support and practice on how to work through challenges that come up.
